Hi – I’m John Willard, and I am uncle to several nieces and nephews. My day job affords me the opportunity to visit many interesting places, here in the United States and abroad. My chosen pasttime and lifelong passion is photography. I love to capture images as I gallivant around in pursuit of making a living.
I take time to smell the roses…
It seems to me there is a lot of hustle and bustle in our world of Internet fly-bys and instant gratification. And it has also occurred to me that we might be well-served to slow down — every once in a while — and just drink in the beauty surrounding us, or notice the small things in our natural world.
… and then I share those roses with you!
And so was born the idea of delivering these glimpses of our world, captured through my viewfinder, to my nieces and nephews back home. Every month a bit of serendipity was delivered to their mailboxes “from Uncle John”. Not by email, not by text… delivered by postal mail. Who doesn’t enjoy savoring the anticipation of receiving a small surprise?

Part of the fun (for me, and for the recipient) is not knowing exactly what will be discovered each month. I never know what little gem I may come across, so each month’s delivery is something new. It might be unusual in some way: something which was previously undiscovered, or a view not normally visible. Or, it might be just a different way to look at something which typically is not unusual but in this specific context engenders thought or discussion.
And that is half the fun!
Receiving the latest ‘find’ or ‘discovery’ is just the beginning. My hope is to promote curiosity, nurture the ability of each mind to think expansively, and provide a forum for discussion of these photographic seeds. Hopefully, intuitive thoughts will take root and sprout into full-grown ideas and concepts we all will find useful and fulfilling.
